3...2...1...Magnet Races!

November 14, 2023

Class II students demonstrated their engineering skills this fall with the creation of original magnet games. After learning about the science of magnetism and digging into the forces of attraction and repulsion, students were challenged to invent a game that was powered entirely by those two forces. Working with a partner, students had two full class periods to brainstorm various ideas, consider what materials they would use, draw up blueprints, and build their games. In the process, students practice problem solving and collaboration, refining their communication and critical thinking skills, in order to make design the best game possible. Finally, game day had arrived! Nightingale community members were invited to travel to the fifth floor Lower School science room to try their hand at the various games. Their creations were all unique, challenging, and scientifically sound!
