Rising Class I: Dinosaur Als
Rising Class II: Space Invaders
Rising Class III: Olympians
Rising Classes IV and V: Raider-All*Stars
Rising Classes VI–VIII: CITs (Counselors-in-Training)
Groups will be led throughout the day by our highly energetic and skilled staff. Lead adult counselors will be in charge of each group, with assistance from both college- and high school-aged counselors. CITs will be mentored by full counselors and will spend time during the day with campers, as well as in their own activities.
Campers may arrive any time between 8:00–8:30 a.m. and will be greeted in the lobby by our staff. A staff member will escort your camper up to her Sunny Days room for some early morning free time.
The scheduled day will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.
Dinosaur Rex and Dinosaur Als: 2:30 p.m.
All other groups: 3:00 p.m.
Dismissal will take place in front of the schoolhouse or, in the case of inclement weather, in the lobby. If you are delayed in picking up your child on a particular day, please contact the Nightingale-Bamford School front desk at (212) 289-5020 so arrangements can be made to supervise your child until you arrive.
Click here to complete the online Sunny Days dismissal authorization form, which will indicate who may pick up your child. This form must be submitted no later than Wednesday, June 7.
If your child will be picked up on a given day by someone not authorized on the dismissal form, please let us know in writing by noon that day. You may give a note to the counselor that morning or send an e-mail to email@example.com.
Sunny Days campers will receive swim instruction at the 92nd Street Y. Certified swim instructor and Nightingale faculty member Lisa Reda will serve as Sunny Days swim coordinator. She, together with certified swim instructors from the 92Y, will oversee our campers’ time in the pool, with additional supervision provided by Sunny Days counselors. Certified lifeguards are also always on duty during the pool's operational hours. Like Sunny Days, the 92Y is licensed by the City of New York.
Counselors will walk campers to and from the pool. You will receive a weekly e-mail from Sunny Days to let you know which days your camper will swim.
On swim days, you will need to send your child to camp with a bathing suit, swim cap (required!), swim goggles, and a towel, packed in a plastic Ziploc-type bag or waterproof tote.
Snacks and Lunch
Healthy snacks and lunch are included as part of Sunny Days and will be prepared by Chef Joel Hinds-Ortiz and his team. Sunny Days will operate as a nut-free camp.
A bag lunch from home may be required on field trip days, and we will let you know ahead of time if you will need to send your child with lunch. Please refrain from packing any items containing nuts.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will a typical day at Sunny Days look like?
A typical day in the life of a Sunny Days camper will include art, music, Book Club, Math Madness, and sports. Special events such as swimming, wall climbing (for older campers), a Disney dance party, play time on the roof, picnics, scavenger hunts, cooking, field trips, and all kinds of extra fun will be sprinkled into the weekly schedule, as well.
What should I do if my child will be late or absent?
If your child will be late to camp or absent, please let us know before 8:45 a.m. by leaving a voicemail message for Ms. John at (212) 933-6701 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
What should I do if my child needs to leave early?
If you need to pick your child up early on a particular day, please send in a note that morning or e-mail email@example.com to let us know what time your child needs to leave and the name of the person picking her up.
What if my child has a playdate after Sunny Days?
Playdate notes must be delivered to the head counselor in the morning or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Two separate notes are required: one from the host and the other from the guest. All playdate notes must include the names of the host and guest, the name of person picking them up, and the phone number of the host's parent or caregiver.
What should my camper wear?
Campers will participate in active play throughout the day, so they should wear play clothes that can get dirty, as well as sneakers. No sandals or flip-flops, please!
Each camper will receive a Sunny Days t-shirt, which will be required on all field trip days.
We will have theme days on occasion that might require your camper to get creative about what to wear to camp on that day. Possible themes include crazy sock day, silly hat day, sports jersey day, or pajama day—we will keep you posted!
Incoming Kindergarteners are encouraged to pack an extra set of underwear each day; please place it in a Ziploc-type bag labeled with your child’s name.
Please label all clothing and personal items with a permanent marker or name tapes, as this allows us to quickly identify lost items.
