College Counseling
Nightingale has two college counselors to guide our juniors and seniors through the admissions process, supplying both group instruction and individual support throughout their final two years in high school.
College counseling begins with course selection in the Upper School to make sure that each student completes the courses required for college admissions and takes the necessary standardized tests. Throughout their Nightingale years, students are encouraged to challenge themselves in the classroom, develop passion and expertise in their extracurricular interests, and search for ways to contribute to the good of the community, both inside Nightingale and in the world beyond.
The process of identifying prospective colleges begins officially in the junior year. Students and their parents work with one of our college counselors to develop a list of schools that are appropriate for each student. Individual and small group meetings with students focus on understanding the application process, researching colleges, writing essays, preparing for college interviews, and engaging in honest self-assessment.
The colleges and universities where the greatest number of our students have matriculated upon graduation from Nightingale between 2004-2009 are:
Brown University (9)
University of Pennsylvania (8)
Columbia University, Kenyon College, Vanderbilt University (7)
George Washington University, Harvard University, Oberlin College, Skidmore College (6)
Duke University, University of Edinburgh, Emory University, Yale University (5)
