On Wednesday, September 11, Nightingale hosted its annual fall Welcome Coffee with Head of School Paul A. Burke. After greeting parents and after introductory remarks by PA President Eizelle Taino P’23’26, Mr. Burke delivered his remarks. Acknowledging that he is often inspired by history, Mr. Burke shared facts and anecdotes from throughout Nightingale’s first century and provided insight as to how that history is meaningful during this centennial year of celebration.
“There's no question that the story of truth, friendship, and loyalty were important in 1920, and there's no question that truth friendship and loyalty are as important as ever in 2019,” said Mr. Burke.
During his remarks, Mr. Burke described how he asked Class XII students on their recent retreat to identify three words for Nightingale to help define the school’s second century. The words they chose were integrity, curiosity, and growth. “I encourage you,” reflected Mr. Burke, “that as you think of this year and the amazing girls of 2020, to think about how they chose those words and what they mean for our future.”
