Upper School

Leadership Work in the Upper School

Upper School students are the leaders of Nightingale, and their facility in public speaking, active listening, and creative problem-solving is reflected in the wide range of opportunities for girls to find and use their voices.

Upper School leadership programming includes:

  • Peer leadership program, in which Class XII students are chosen through a selection process to mentor Class VII and IX peer groups
  • Upper School debate program
  • Public speaking course in Class XI
  • Career-building opportunities in Class XI
  • Independent Study Projects in Class XII
  • All grades elect a president and vice president, as well as representatives to arts board, athletic board, community engagement board, environmental board, and inclusivity board
  • The entire Upper School elects a president and vice president of the student body, as well as co-heads of arts board, athletic board, community engagement board, environmental board, and inclusivity board
  • Interschool Association leadership programs, including the Frost Valley retreat and the Leadership Fellows program
  • Athletic teams
  • Performances in plays and musicals, as well as musical recitals
  • A leadership “retreat” for seniors as they embark upon their final year at Nightingale
  • Semester-away programs
  • Students serve as tour guides for prospective families
  • Painting presentations on the London trip in Class IX
  • Student Speaker Series
