Independent Science Research Program

The Independent Science Research Program is open to highly skilled, motivated, and dedicated students of science in Classes X–XII. By applying to the program, students in Classes IX and X indicate an intention to commit at least six to eight weeks to intensive science research during one or two subsequent summers. While most research placements involve a lab setting, field placements may also be possible.

Students accepted to the Independent Science Research Program are expected to:

  1. Enroll in Training in Biotechnology during the summer between Class X and Class XI (or the summer between Class IX and Class X, with prior approval). This two-week summer training course must be completed before research begins.
  2. Enroll in Science Seminar for the 2020–2021 academic year.
  3. Participate in primary science research for six to eight weeks for one or two summers. This research takes place between the Class X and XI years and/or Class XI and XII; some lab sites prefer a two-year commitment to ensure meaningful participation in the process.
