Nightingale's varsity tennis team is officially the best in the city! Over the weekend, the Nighthawks won the Mayor's Cup tournament, which brings together the top teams from NYC's public, private, and parochial schools. This victory is a first in Nightingale's history and caps off an amazing undefeated season in which the Nighthawks were also AAIS league and tournament champions!
In the first round, Nightingale competed against St. Francis Prep. It was very close and came down to the first doubles team of Natalie Margulies '17 and Grace Feagin '18, who won the deciding match 7-5, 6-7, 6-2.
In the semifinals, the team faced Beacon, the number one seed and the team to whom they had lost in the finals last year. Although Beacon was very strong, the Nighthawks prevailed, winning 3-1 overall!
In the finals, the Nighthawks faced Bronx Science, winning three solid matches to seal the victory.
A special congratulations goes out to first singles Lia Kiam '17 and second doubles Anna Fighera '18 and Leah Margulies '19, who won all of their matches. The team faced much adversity throughout the weekend including 90 degree weather and many medical timeouts, but everyone played with true Nighthawk heart.
Congratulations to Coach Irving Salazar, Coach Robbie Frishling-Sosman, and the entire team: #1 singles Lia Kiam '17, #2 singles Sophie Wilson '16, #3 singles Carolyn Silverstein '17, first doubles Grace Feagin '18 and Natalie Margulies '17 and second doubles Leah Margulies '19 and Anna Fighera '18.
