Nightingale's Athletics Facility
Imagine this: a cutting-edge athletics facility in the heart of New York City—designed not for boys—but for the next generation of female leaders. It’s a place where girls thrive as athletes, learn to navigate challenges with grace, and build resilience that transcends the playing field. Here, they won’t just defy the norms—they’ll redefine them, breaking through barriers that have held girls back for too long.
At Nightingale, athletics play a dynamic role in shaping well-rounded students, seamlessly blending with rigorous academics and a host of inspiring and enriching programming. More than just a new facility, Nightingale is creating a future where wellness, teamwork, and resilience are nurtured alongside intellectual curiosity and creativity. With expert coaches and dedicated athletic leadership at every level, girls will gain the confidence to lead—in the gym, on the field, and in the world beyond.
What sets Nightingale apart is its emphasis on leadership and teamwork. Athletics teaches us so much—discipline, resilience, and the ability to bring people together—all qualities essential to becoming a strong leader.
Year-round access to quality athletic space—so students can build skills, stamina, and game-ready habits without the constraints of city facilities.
A holistic hub that nurtures confidence, leadership, and mental strength—where healthy routines become lifelong habits.
A central gathering place that deepens school spirit and belonging—students cheering for students, across every grade.
State-of-the-art courts designed for practice, competition, and game-day energy—giving every team the stage they deserve.
An indoor track, providing a space for students to build endurance and stamina while finding their stride.
A dedicated dance studio designed to host a variety of movement-based offerings, from Pilates and Yoga to Zumba and more.
Reliable, cutting-edge spaces that few schools in the city can offer—so our students can train year-round and compete at their highest level. This thoughtfully designed facility brings all essential athletics resources under one roof, ensuring that our Nighthawks have the space, tools, and support they need to thrive.
Nightingale is set to become the only independent school in New York City to offer a high-performance indoor turf field of this magnitude.
It will be an unparalleled resource, providing year-round access for both team training and physical education, spanning more than 15,000 square feet and designed to accommodate a variety of sports and activities.
Unlike outdoor fields subject to seasonal limitations and unpredictable weather, this indoor field will be available year-round and exclusively to Nightingale students, offering athletes a consistent, high-quality training environment. It will serve as a central hub for physical education, cross-divisional activities, and open play, enhancing not just athletic performance but also fostering collaboration, movement, and wellness throughout the school community.
Sports have always been my foundation — it’s where I’ve built my strongest connections and found my community. Every journey starts somewhere, and for me, being part of a team was that first step. It’s where I learned to lead, challenge myself, and grow — lessons that extend far beyond the game and into the world.
From the first day of Lower School through the final whistle of Upper School competition, this facility will meet students where they are. Spaces are intentionally designed so that every Nighthawk—at every age and stage—can move, play, train, and discover the athlete within.
Where curiosity meets movement—space to try everything, build coordination, and find the joy in being active.
A place to grow skills and friendships—learning to navigate challenges with grace and grit, together.
High-performance environments that support advanced training, leadership, and competitive excellence.
As Nightingale expands into East Harlem, this initiative reaffirms the school’s commitment to building meaningful connections beyond its blue doors on 92nd Street. For years, Nightingale has engaged in community outreach efforts designed to foster collaboration and shared opportunities for growth. With the creation of this new facility, Nightingale has an opportunity to deepen those efforts and create lasting relationships that benefit both its students and the broader neighborhood.
A recent report by the Aspen Institute titled State of Play Harlem underscores the critical lack of access to reliable athletic facilities in East Harlem, highlighting barriers such as limited school spaces, competition for public fields, and safety concerns. By partnering with local organizations, Nightingale’s new facility presents a meaningful opportunity to serve as a permanent, dependable resource for the neighborhood’s youth—a space where they can also play, grow, and thrive. This facility stands as a testament to Nightingale’s belief in the potential of every girl. It also reflects a commitment to creating a space that can inspire and provide opportunities for children in the broader community.
This facility is a cornerstone of Nightingale’s broader effort to elevate every program—advancing athletics, wellness, and the student experience for generations to come. It is being brought to life through the generosity of alumnae, families, and friends who believe in what’s possible for our students. Their partnership ensures that this bold vision becomes a daily reality for every Nighthawk who walks through these doors. Nightingale has embarked on Future Ready: Go Beyond, the most ambitious capital campaign in our history. Designed to propel the school forward in its second century of excellence, this transformative effort will elevate every aspect of the Nightingale experience, advancing three essential priorities: a groundbreaking athletics facility, the continued growth of our endowment, and an invigorated Nightingale Fund.
