Exploring Jazz, One Chassé at a Time
Class V is exploring the world of jazz through dance technique, history, and social context. Throughout the course, students experience the many dance styles influenced by jazz, and are currently focusing on Lindy Hop and Broadway jazz.
In class, dancers are learning about syncopation, rhythm, isolations, and contractions, while refining jazz techniques such as pirouettes, jazz walks, and chassés. During this week’s class, students focused on chassés, building strength and muscle memory as they practiced pointing their feet while moving across the floor.
