Upper School's Philosophical Inquiry class recently visited The Jewish Museum for an inquiry into Marc Chagall's Self-Portrait with Palette (1917). Guided by Director of Museum Education and Cultural Partnerships Gabriella Kula, students each shared their observations and questions and learned about Chagall's biography and the historical context of the painting; they then engaged in a collaborative interpretation of the piece. In a world of increasing distractions and fragmented attention, the class offered a rare opportunity to discuss one artwork, with focus and in community, for the entire class period.
