Finding the Beat in Kindergarten Music

Kindergarten students are working on maintaining a steady beat and finding their singing voice. Last week, students listened to an upbeat piece of music and demonstrated a steady beat through various movements and gestures such as marching and hopping in place, tapping their heads, and waving their arms in the air. This activity served as a way to individually assess students' ability to maintain a steady beat.

Students also learned a new song called "There's a Spider on the Floor." While the song brings plenty of giggles, this interactive piece helps our Kindergarteners find their singing voices and build body awareness as the imaginary spider "climbs" from their feet to their heads. This song also features a cross-curricular connection with their Spanish class! After mastering the English version, students sing the song in Spanish, identifying body parts in a new language.
