Line Sculptures in Class I
Class I artists explored the world of lines by observing the many types found in our environment. As part of their Line, Shape, and Space unit, they painted expressive lines using sumi-ink, then built on that foundation by sculpting unique three-dimensional forms with colored paper strips.
After learning techniques like folding, rolling, and twisting to create zig-zag, swirly, and loopy lines, students expanded on these ideas both independently and collaboratively. They especially enjoyed inventing colorful structures that evolved into imaginative, playful environments—often envisioning them as whimsical playgrounds, candy lands, or flowing swimming pools.
What began as an exploration of line transformed into a vibrant form of visual storytelling, with each sculpture reflecting personal creativity, ideas, and emotion through shape, space, and color.
