Mycology Labs in Middle School

Class VI took a deep dive into the world of mycology this spring! Over the past month, Class VI students learned from farmers at Mi Oh My, a worker-owned urban farm cooperative that specializes in the cultivation of mushrooms and microgreens. Students learned how to use compostable materials such as coffee grounds to grow mushrooms successfully in Nightingale’s greenhouse. Through hands-on lessons, students explored the mushroom life cycle and gained a deeper understanding of sustainable agriculture and urban farming. This collaboration sparked curiosity about fungi and encouraged students to think about upcycling materials to create more sustainable food systems.
